Invoice Tips
Plain-English guides to sending invoices and actually getting paid.
New to invoicing, or tired of chasing late payments? These guides cover the stuff nobody explains when you start a business. They're short, practical and free of accounting jargon.
The basics in 30 seconds
- Send it fast. Invoice the day the work is done. The clock on getting paid doesn't start until they have the bill.
- Number every invoice. INV-0001, INV-0002 and so on. Never reuse a number.
- Always include a due date and exactly how to pay you.
- Send a PDF, not a Word file, and keep a copy for your records.
- Follow up politely when it's late. Most late payments are just forgotten.
